Thinking of joining one of the hand-building pottery workshops at ĀRĀ Design Studio in West Auckland? Here are answers to some of the most commonly asked questions — from what’s included to how to book your spot.
🟤 What is included in the pottery workshop?
Each session includes all the materials and tools you’ll need: clay, hand-building tools, texture tools— everything is provided. I guide you through a relaxed, creative process using sculptural techniques like coiling, pinching, and slab-building.
🟤 Do I need prior experience to join the workshop?
Not at all. These workshops are open to everyone — whether you’re completely new to clay or you’ve worked with it before and want to reconnect. The space is welcoming, slow-paced, and designed for exploration rather than perfection.
🟤 What is the duration of each session?
Most of my workshops run for about 3.5 hours, all details are listed on the Workshops page.
🟤 Where is the workshop located in Auckland?
Workshops are held in my home studio in rural West Auckland — about 30 minutes from the Auckland CBD. It’s surrounded by nature and open space, which adds to the peaceful and grounding experience.
🟤 What materials and tools are provided?
Everything is included — you don’t need to bring a thing. Clay, tools and everything you need on the day is provided. After the workshop, your piece will stay with me for drying and double firing, and you’ll be contacted when it’s ready for collection (usually within 4 to 6 weeks).
🟤 Can I take my creations home?
Yes, absolutely! Once your piece has dried fully and been fired twice (bisque and glaze), I’ll get in touch to arrange collection. This process usually takes up to 6 weeks depending on the drying and kiln schedule.
🟤 Are there age restrictions for participants?
Most workshops are designed for adults (18+), as the focus is quite meditative and sculptural. Occasionally I may run family or teen-friendly classes — keep an eye on announcements or feel free to ask if you have someone in mind.
🟤 How do I book a spot in the workshop?
You can browse available classes and book your spot directly through the Workshops page. Spots are limited to keep the experience personal and spacious, so early booking is recommended.

🟤 Do you offer private or group sessions?
Yes — I offer private one-on-one sessions, small group bookings, and occasionally run team or creative retreat workshops. If you're looking for something custom, just reach out and we can plan something that suits your group.
Want to join a class?
You don’t need to have any clay experience — just bring your hands, your curiosity, and a willingness to slow down. Whether you’re looking for a creative outlet, a mindful break, or simply want to try sculpting in clay for the first time, I’d love to welcome you here.
