Tiles are popular choices for bathroom walls and floors, they can protect what's behind them as well as bringing pattern, colour and texture to the space. Here is how you can select the best ones for your bathroom.
Before heading to the tile shop, start by:
Setting a budget: First determine how much money you can and willing to spend on tiles. This can narrow down your search, since there are gazillions options out there.
Measure your space: Determine how much tile you need- what areas you must tile. I recommend tiling inside the showers, preferably to the ceiling. Tiling all the way up to the ceiling will keep the space nice and dry and will also make the shower area look bigger and more luxurious. But if you are on a tight budget, don't worry, just make sure you tile at least 30cm over your shower head.
Choose your favourite tile material: There are so many materials on the market and getting to know which one suits your needs and taste can be daunting. Again budget plays an important role here, but it's not everything. For example, it might be within your budget to buy real stone tiles- which is very luxurious- however you might not like the idea of their high maintenance nature.
Think about who uses the bathroom and how often does it get used: Think about its traffic. Things to consider here are perhaps the durability and hygiene of the material you use. Perhaps for a bathroom that often gets used by kids, ceramic tiles are the best option since they are impervious to moisture and stands up to stains, making them more hygienic compare to other materials. They also come in a wide range of patterns and colours, which make them more appealing to kids.
